On 30th November 2016 our tour highlight took place again. Our spectacular adventure hiking tour Caminito del Rey was once more on the agenda. And it was anew an unforgettable experience.
But first of all, I would like to clean up a myth: The via ferrata known as the “King’s Pathway” in the Sierra de Málaga is the once “most dangerous way” in the world. A label that today is no longer applicable, as it is not that hazardous anymore. With new wooden planks on the steel beams, with safety lines for the hikers, with wire mesh on the slopes that should prevent stone chips, it has become safer. And yet, to complete the hiking tour is still a unique adventure experience, which contains excitement and thrill.
In order to complete the whole route we needed about three and a half hours. One is hardly aware of this since the path is varied as it leads alternately through natural forest paths and the actual fixed rope route. Apart from the imposing view from the airy heights to the Gaitanes gorge.
Half the hiking tour we put our lunch with a sumptuous lunch package. A welcome break on a rocky promontory with a unique panorama over the whole valley.
The absolute highlight of the hiking tour Caminito del Rey is undoubtedly the crossing of the steely rope bridge almost at the end of the hiking trail. A filigree steel structure that connects the two opposite rock faces of the canyon. Be careful, the bottom of this bridge is made of a steel grille that provides a clear view into the depths of the canyon: breathtaking!
Who has made it to the other side is almost through. Until we have solid ground under our feet again, we continue along the rock face a few steps up. From here you can enjoy a unique view of the impressive lake of Gaitanejo.
Last but not least, the hiking tour Caminito del Rey is not only worthwhile for the unique nature experience and the thrill moments. To be able to complete, it gives each participant the feeling of having achieved something outstanding.
