Pure Adventure in the open wilderness: El Caminito del Rey, the King’s Pathway.
Hiking along the cliffs in the canyon between Ardales and Álora and enjoying the fantastic views to the lake of Guadalhorce and the surrounding valleys of the foothills in the Sierra de las Nieves makes this trip a unique experience.
The Caminito del Rey, the so-called King’s Pathway, is an adventure hiking route with trails and ferratas through an up to 300m deep canyon between Ardales and El Chorro in the northern part of the province of Málaga, at the foothills of the Sierra de las Nieves. Its slopes along the drop-offs are located at an altitude of about 100 meters and offer a magnificent view over the surrounding nature.
Our adventure day trip starts early in the morning with the departure off the pick up location for our day trip. You can find these starting point below, under the heading “Pick up locations”. After an approximately 2-hour drive, we arrive at the starting point of the hike tour at Ardales right at the entrance of the King’s Pathway.
From here we continue walking. After about 15 minutes we have to master the first ferratas and bridges. Meanwhile, we enjoy the unique view into the depths of the canyon and the surrounding countryside. The walk through the King’s track takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on our pace.
Having reached the end of the adventure hike, we go back to Ardales by shuttle bus. Once there, we will recover with a typical Andalusian lunch. With new forces we continue with the cultural part of our day trip with an information-rich but entertaining city tour through Olvera, one famous Andalusia’s famous “White Villages”.
