Culture and History

Zahara de los Atunes has developed over the years a very private atmosphere. The village hasn't suffered the coastal building boom of the 90's and still exudes a mixture of mediterranean flair and andalusian charme.

The most famous tourist attraction in Zahara de los Atunes is the fortress Castillo de Jadraza with its surrounding countermure of the 15th century. Another place of interest is the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, which was built in the 17th centure in honor to the patroness of the location.

Those who resides in Zahara should not miss also a trip to the neighbouring Vejer de la Frontera.

Another attraction is the formerly Moorish fortress on the highest point of the town, which was rebuilt during the reign of the Catholic Kings.
